The children’s bathroom includes light-diffusing glass block and mirrors, reflecting the rich tones of an angled cherry vanity with plastic laminate top. The tub/shower in that room is anchored by a radial-design “Symbio” tub, and features a matching curve cultured marble surround, accented by diagonal lines.

This project includes an interesting mix of mosaic tile, glass and glass-look materials, plastic laminate and metals was selected. Warmth was introduced by use of natural cork flooring, complimented by the copper tones of the soffit cladding. The cantilevered translucent countertop appears to float, bolstered by this steel supports and a wall-hung flush laminate drawer stack. Clear and mirrored glass intersect, as the “Antique Glass” top appears to pierce the shower partition. The rigid rectilinear forms of this space are softened and complimented by the bow-front of the vanity top and reverse curve in the shower.

Particular attention was given to develop a historically sensitive design for expansion and remodeling of this home located in the Ginter Park historic district.

In keeping with the old character of this home, this bathroom was designed with such features as a beadboard wainscot and “antique” appearance fixtures — his-and-hers pedestal sinks and an oversized clawfoot tub. Fittings selected in a like manner included a “telephone-type” handshower, cross-handled nickel and porcelain faucets and vintage sconce lighting.

Modern upgrades done in a design-sensitive manner include lots of cabinet-type and open storage cubbies, a radiant-heated marble tiled floor, and a large tiled shower with a custom heavy glass frameless door.
